Junksista – “Strom (Gulag Remix)” -230615

Got a chance to mix/master the track in CE5/AA3. Made a few small changes to my edits from yesterday and adjusted some of the levels as used by the band, but nothing too radical.

Have sent the completed wav off and am awaiting a response.

Great fun!

Junksista – “Strom” – 220615

Bloody hell, has it really been a year since my last posting?

My good friend Peter Fitzpatrick put me in touch with German duo JUNKSISTA, who are looking for a remix of their track Strom.

Here’s the source track, which is a bonus track from their fine album High Voltage Confessions:-

Diana S, from the band, sent me the stems today and I set to work doing my usual edits’n’stuff in CE5. As I believe they have a tight deadline, I don’t really have time to go all Cecil B DeMille on the track, but I’ve pretty much got a nice remix sorted already. I hope to be able to mix/master the track tomorrow.

Hopefully I’ll be able to share the finished remix with you shortly.

Regards,

djp

Katey Laurel – “Periscope – The Remix Project” – 220614

Katey has released a free-to-download remix album on Noisetrade. I have two remixes (out of a total of twenty-five) on it and I also designed the graphics – nice work if you can get it…

Noisetrade seem to have done a nice job on the release. It wouldn’t be a route I’d consider for myself (why pay someone to give away your money for free, when you, yourself, can give away your music for free, for…er…free?) But I can see the logic of it if I were a gigging musician based in the US. Which I’m not.

Katey was a joy to work with over the web – she even put up with my “sense of humour”, which only the very brave or the very reckless can do, and I’d love to have the opportunity to work with her again.

Grab this album while you can!

Katey Laurel – “Periscope (Vocal Gulag Remix)” – 180514

Here’s a little something I’ve been working on recently.

Katey is pleased with it, and I’m delighted by that.

Enjoy!

Katey Laurel – All The Way Home (Gulag Remix) – 170314

Delighted to finally be able to share this with you…

Katey loves it, and I think you’ll like it too!

P.S. I was trying to embed the Soundcloud player here, but either/both Soundcloud/Wordpress suck/s. Grrrr…

Nicolas Grenier – 151013 a.k.a “Antarctic Peninsula” – 241013

Nicolas has composed a poem, entitled ANTARCTIC PENINSULA, to accompany my piece of music.

Neither of us are particularly anxious to do the “spoken word” thing, Nicolas is trying to find someone else to record the vocals.

We’ll see how things will pan out.

Nicolas Grenier -151013 – 151013

My, that was quick. Back again…

As if I wasn’t busy enough over the last few days doing the remix for Katey Laurel, I spent this morning working on a quick’n’dirty electronic track for a possible collaboration with French poet Nicolas Grenier.

Nicolas contacted me after a track from my 2010 album HAPPY DAYS IN THE GULAG (Memory Foam Pillow)…

…was featured on a free download compilation album – MIDNIGHT RADIO COMPILATION 2…

He seemed to like the track and wondered would I be interested in working with him putting music to his verse (or vice versa, perhaps). After a short exchange of correspondence and a certain amount of virtual tyre-kicking, I agreed that I’d sent him over three or four short pieces for his consideration.

Today’s is the first – I’d describe it as primitive or tribal electronics. I programmed the track in CE5 using a variety of VST plugins (to wit, a Taikodrum setting in HALion One and two different voices in Minimogue VA). Did a rough mix and mastered in AA3.

I’ve sent off an mp3 of the track to Nicolas for his approval. Hopefully I’ll hear something back from him soon.

I have no idea whether this will amounting to anything – we’ll see…;-).

Katey Laurel – All The Way Home – 141013

Hello there!

It’s been a while since I’ve been round these parts, filling your heads with lots of lovely information about my musical activities on behalf of other people. Been kinda busy doing this:-

…and this…

…and finally this…

…so you’ll understand that doing sessions for other people hasn’t been a high priority for me of late.

But now that all that’s out of the way, I’m free to exercise my musical muscles (as it were) for the benefit (hah!) of other folk.

The weekend before last, I happened to find myself in a hotel with free wifi. Deciding to take advantage of that for totally commendable purposes (I can assure you), I checked my e-mail and found a message from a lady called Katey Laurel. I’d downloaded some of her music from Noisetrade some time ago and she had added me to her mailing list. Katey was looking for volunteers to remix some tracks from her forthcoming album and I, being game for anything, put my name forward.

Last week, she sent me (and lots of other people, no doubt) some stems to work on. The first track I decided to have a go at is called All The Way Home. It’s a lovely folk track with very touching lyrics. Katey sings like an angel.

I spent the last two days taking the track apart and putting it (mostly) back together again, giving it a vaguely ambient/dub feel. I don’t think it takes from the song – hopefully the remix is suitably subtle. I like it anyway.

I hope to be able to send her off an mp3 for review today or tomorrow. I hope she likes it and decides to use it. If not, well I’ve had a bit of fun with someone else’s music. No harm done.

Keep tuned for further details.

Regards,

djp

P.S. – Katey’s website is here – try not to get too distracted…

It’s been a while…

…so it’s about time I did an update on some of the things I’ve been up to, collab-wise, over the last few months.

PETER FITZPATRICK

Last Autumn, Peter brought out his debut album – only he didn’t – he brought out three albums.

The main album is entitled OTHER PEOPLE’S HATS and I did a few bits and pieces on it…

He also brought out a covers album, whereby invited guests were asked to cover tracks from HATS. I covered the song FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD and I was also kindly invited to add an original song of my own – DANDY CAN DECLINE..

Finally, he brought out an album of HATS remixes and I did some work on that too…

All the albums are worth checking out, and not just because Muggins is on them!

COUSIN SILAS

CS brought out an album of collaborations on the WE ARE ALL GHOSTS netlabel, entitled SILAS & FRIENDS Vol. 1 (I’m reliably informed that it would be correct to infer that further volumens are planned). Three tracks that I worked on with CS are featured on the album: – BVV, THE LOST COSMONAUT and DESERTED HIGHWAY.

You can check out the album here:-

Tasteful stuff!

As for myself, I’m heading into the final stages of releasing a new album of my own material, but in the meantime there’s plenty of stuff to “enjoy” over on my Bandcamp page. Feel free to wander over there and have a good nose around!

For now, toodles poodles…

Regards,

djp
